Title: School Nurse
Qualifications:
- Licensed from the State to practice as a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.
- Licensed practical nurse certification is a minimum requirement.
- Graduate of an accredited practical nurse program or an accredited nursing program.
Reports To: Building Principal
Job Goal: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each districts student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in district schools.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing the school health program.
- Participate in work of health curriculum committee.
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing tests.
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Instructs teachers on screening students for health needs.
- Maintains up=to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters, as needed.
- Visits student homes if necessary.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aide procedures.
- Makes recommendations to district administration on health needs of individual students.
- Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students on connection with infectious and contagious disease.
- Participated in in-service training programs.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee will occasionally sit, walk or stand. The employee will occasionally reach forward or above the head and truck more than the average person. Employee must have the ability to visit various buildings in the district. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and push up to 90 pounds such as students and students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and depth perception.
Terms of Employment: 9.5 month. Salary and work year will be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
